Devon Philharmonic Orchestra has, alongside most if not all musical organisations across the UK, suspended all rehearsals while the Government’s Covid-19 lockdown measures are in place. However, this has not stopped the musical activities of many of our orchestral members. We have been privileged that our Music Director, Leo Geyer, has held weekly virtual rehearsals every Thursday evening almost since the start of lockdown.
These weekly events have been very popular not only with our own members but also further afield; Leo has received responses and accolades from musicians based not only in the UK but also across the globe! Such has been the popularity that during April BBC South-West filmed one of the rehearsals and included an article within their Spotlight programme. If you missed the programme then you can catch up with it on the What’s On page of our website.
More recently Leo has been successful in obtaining a commission from the Box Plymouth to write a short piece for the Devon Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus to be performed in self-isolation. Several of our members made recordings of themselves playing their individual part and these have be stitched together with the help of an audio engineer to recreate a complete orchestral performance. The full recording is now available on our 'What's On' page.
